Hello, I am a new PC, and am still feeling my way around the etiquette of who does what and through who. Meantime, I want to get involved by doing some research myself. This discussion forum is one avenue ...
Our Parish Council has a lot of coastline, and we are concerned / responsible for the safety of people on the beaches under the cliffs, in the caves, and on the cliff paths above.
We have commissioned a report on a particularly dangerous looking spot, and are getting estimates to 'fix' it. One solution to our problems could be shoring up and pebble-dashing the whole cliff face from one boundary to the next. Another solution could be - what?
I am told NALC may have an old brochure on this issue somewhere, but I was wondering whether anyone in this forum has dealt with coastal erosion and the dangers to the public, and have adopted the same strategy as umpteen others, using specialist xyz insurance cover, legislated signage, etc
I don't want to see our parochial solution, a cement in-fill 'fix', becoming a monolith standing in 50 years time whilst the cliff around it has eroded.
If anyone can contribute, please do. If you have the same problem, please suggest a solution, or point me in the right direction. Who else should I approach, or should I be giving all this to the already 'loaded' clerk to progress.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Best Wishes, Alan |

To follow up on my earlier query, and the nil response from this forum.
We decided to bulldoze down the offending cave and dangerous area of cliff face (approx 12-16 ft), and push the debris into the cave. Once we've had a good storm and a nice high tide, you won't be able to see the join.
Luckily we have easy access to get to this area and it was all done in half a day.
